history

when i came first time to corfu island, 25 years ago, there were 4 million Olive Trees crying silently… the whole island was poisoned with pesticides by aeroplanes several times a year… the green carpet under the trees was exterminated with plantkilling chemistry and the elder trees were just beheaded to be sold out as firewood… i was so horrified, that i left the island the very next day, thought i would never come back again…

but corfu is the only really forested island all over the mediterranean sea… and the Olive Trees growing on corfu are a very old sort from egypt, very close to the wild olive shrubs, they were once selected from. and the most of these old olive trees are just monumental, over ten meters high, gnarled epitomes and each of them a fascinating and majestic character…

so i came back, one month later, because they called me back… nearly every night i heard them crying deep in my gutroots… at this time i had no idea how to deal with all this… i couldn´t even speak the greek language properly… but i was caught by their unbelievable beauty and strength and their standing power of vulnerability…

i applied for a job at the water sports. and the first little money i made, i invested in an old Olive Grove with 12 beautiful Olive Trees and about 100 Cypress Trees… but half of the land was an illegal landfill with tons of garbage on it… and it took me years to recycle all the plastic bottles, tins and one way tourist junk…

in the meantime i built up the first agrotourism project on corfu island… i met some interesting people and got organized in the environmental movement. we succeeded to stop the spraying helicopters in 2004 final. the same year we realised the first certified organic farming on corfu island. we built up a cooperative of producers and consumers of organic products… we founded the green party and started to influence the political atmosphere on corfu island…

on the other side we started to offer shamanic walkabouts, pure nature experiences and special rituals and sessions to get the people again in touch with mother nature and her Trees…

for all of these events we never charged anything… but without the donations of our visitors we would not have been able to realize the Dancingtreefarm…

so come and join the history of the Dancingtreefarm, be a part of it and try to continue it…  because one day there might be a small neighbourhood in the valley of the Dancing Trees and you might come and visit us… may be your children gonna live with us some day… may be one day we are all working together, eating together, dancing together… enjoying together the fruits we are transforming…

    Dear Derek,

I was with my daughter in your farm last Wednesday, together with other Gayatri Festival participants. I was deeply touched by your story and wisdom, your heart and the sounds we could make as a group. I would like to be in touch and be part of the farm in some way…. I may aske you to come to volunteer at some point, let’s see! but in any case for now I just wanted to thank you from my heart. Very very best wishes, Paloma
